What Does a Mobile iOS Engineer Do in This Role?
At a basic level, you’ll develop and maintain iOS applications used by enterprise customers to securely access cloud services.
But this isn’t simply a role where you receive specifications and implement screens.
You’ll be expected to take ownership of features from beginning to end.
That can include:
Understanding product requirements
Designing the technical solution
Breaking work into development tasks
Building features in Swift and SwiftUI
Writing and maintaining automated tests
Reviewing code
Managing releases
Monitoring applications after deployment
Improving architecture and removing legacy dependencies
You’ll work closely with backend, infrastructure, product, design, and customer-facing teams throughout the process.
What Will You Be Building?
The mobile team works on two main types of applications.
A Secure Enterprise Browser
One of the products is a secure mobile browser designed for companies that need more control over how employees access cloud services.
Administrators can apply restrictions based on factors such as authentication status, company policies, and access rules.
From an engineering perspective, this means working on areas such as:
Secure authentication
Enterprise access controls
Web application compatibility
WKWebView
Native-to-JavaScript communication
Cloud integrations
Security policies
Application performance and reliability
Because the browser is used within enterprise environments, changes need to be carefully designed and tested.
A Mobile Authentication Application
You’ll also work on a mobile authentication application used for secure login and push-based authentication.
This involves integrating the iOS application with cloud and identity systems while making sure authentication remains reliable and secure.
That can include technologies and concepts such as:
OIDC
MFA
Identity and Access Management
Push authentication
REST APIs
Client-server communication
You don’t need to be a security specialist before joining, but experience or interest in authentication and cloud security is useful.
What Is the Tech Stack?
The core iOS environment includes:
Swift 6
SwiftUI
Xcode
App Store Connect
WKWebView
JavaScript
REST APIs
AWS
CI/CD
Automated testing
You'll also be involved in improving the development environment itself.
For example, the team is modernizing parts of the mobile architecture and gradually replacing legacy dependencies.
That could include projects such as migrating dependency management from CocoaPods to Swift Package Manager, improving CI/CD pipelines, or strengthening automated testing.
What Makes This Role Different From a Typical iOS Position?
One of the biggest differences is the amount of technical ownership.
In some mobile engineering roles, the product or architecture decisions are made elsewhere and engineers mainly focus on implementation.
Here, you’re expected to contribute to technical decisions yourself.
You may be involved in:
Architecture discussions
Technical design
Code reviews
Release strategy
CI/CD improvements
Application monitoring
Migration planning
Engineering standards
The team operates with a high level of autonomy, so engineers have meaningful input into how the products are built.
What Experience Do You Need?
The main requirement is at least 3 years of professional iOS development experience.
You should also have experience developing production applications with SwiftUI.
You’ll ideally be comfortable with:
Swift and SwiftUI
Production mobile application development
Xcode
App Store Connect
Client-server communication
REST APIs
CI/CD
Automated testing
Code reviews
Technical documentation
Clean-code practices
The team is also looking for someone who can take ownership rather than waiting for every technical decision to be made for them.
Experience leading technical projects or mentoring junior engineers is therefore useful.
What Experience Is Nice to Have?
You don’t need all of the following, but they can make your background particularly relevant:
Large-scale iOS application development
B2B SaaS products
Enterprise software
App Store release management
TestFlight
Fastlane
CircleCI
WKWebView
Native-to-JavaScript bridging
Mobile observability
Application debugging
OIDC
MFA
Identity and Access Management
Web security
Android code review
Open-source contributions
Experience working on applications where security, reliability, or enterprise requirements are important is especially transferable.
Do You Need Japanese?
No.
Japanese is not required for this position.
English is the main working language within the engineering environment, and the wider team includes members from more than 20 countries.
You should be able to communicate professionally in English during:
Technical discussions
Code reviews
Planning meetings
Architecture discussions
Cross-team collaboration
The expected English level is approximately CEFR B2 or above.
For international engineers who want to build a career in Japan but don’t yet speak business-level Japanese, this is one of the major advantages of the role.
What Is the Engineering Culture Like?
The company has a strong engineering-led culture.
Its CEO comes from an engineering background and remains closely involved with technology and product development.
That has helped create an environment where areas such as the following receive significant attention:
Technical quality
Architecture
Maintainability
Engineering processes
Continuous improvement
Developer autonomy
Engineering teams are encouraged to contribute to decisions rather than simply execute requirements.
If you enjoy discussing why something should be built a certain way, this environment will likely suit you.
Who Would Be a Good Fit for This Role?
This position could suit you particularly well if you:
Have 3+ years of professional iOS experience
Have built production applications using SwiftUI
Enjoy taking ownership of features
Want to contribute to architecture and technical decisions
Are interested in cloud security or identity products
Want to work in an international engineering environment
Want to work in Japan without needing Japanese
Prefer product development over short-term project work
Enjoy improving existing systems as well as building new features
It may be especially attractive if you want to move from being mainly an implementation-focused engineer toward a role with broader technical responsibility.

Problem solving
Decision making
Why Is This Position Interesting?
There are a few things that make this opportunity stand out.
First, you’ll be working on production applications supporting millions of users, rather than an early-stage product with limited usage.
Second, the role gives you ownership beyond coding. You can contribute to architecture, deployment, testing, and engineering processes.
Third, you'll be working on technically challenging products where areas such as authentication, security, reliability, and cloud integration are central to the product itself.
And finally, for international engineers, you can build your career in Tokyo in an environment where English is the working language and Japanese is not required.
Salary and Working Conditions
The expected annual salary range is:
¥7 million – ¥12 million
Final compensation depends on your experience, technical ability, and current salary.
The position is primarily office-based, so this is an important consideration if you are specifically looking for a fully remote engineering role.
Standard working hours are 9:30–18:30.
